Weekend Fun :)

Friday I went to my Sister’s work Christmas Meal.  One of those have-a-meal-and- a- disco nights at a local hotel.

Theory being lots of companies do the same, hence lots of mixing and socialising with different people.

Except there wasn’t.  Other companies I mean. Maybe it was too early for them.  Maybe they were at the same Beer festival as MR D?  Maybe they just wanted to stay in and be un- Christmasy?

Well Boo to them.

So that meant there was a private disco for the girls.

Now you know I like a good wiggle on the dance floor.  But disco's?  Not usually my thing.

There are some songs that will get me up.

To name but a few.

So go on then… What can’t you resist?

And yes my neck did hurt Saturday.  I know it’s my own fault.

Let it Snow…

The Frost has arrived.

I saw snow flakes today.

But hardly.  I Really want it to snow.  I love snow.  A lot

I want to put my boots and tights  on and walk to the shops to buy the groceries.

Then I want to sit in the cafe while the windows steam up .  And read my book.

I want to laugh at the people trying to drive the mile round trip to work/shop/.  I want to say how stupid that lady is for wearing her Ugg boots in the ankle deep snow.  Wet feet anyone?

I want to smirk at the silly girl fighting to get her brolly the right way around in the snow storm.

I might even take some pics and blog about it in front of the fire ;)

imagesCAO0UH2O I mean…come on…. I got the right Vehicle and everything.

It’d be a shame not to put it to use :)

Do you love the snow?

Weekend Fun

Friday I had the day off :)  So my weekend was Friday and Saturday..Friday night I went with Mr D to see the boys play.  They are doing great, the pub was sooooo busy there was no room for dancing!  I wore my new boots (see previous post) and I got so many compliments about them I was indeed chuffed.

It hurt though.  Getting to bed at 2am.  I’m not as young as I used to be.  Or maybe I’m out of practise!?

Saturday morning I got in Lilly  (Landy) and drove to Cambridgeshire to visit my friend Lisa.  Lisa and I went to college together (a long time ago) It’s nice to catch up with her. We went to lunch at a local farm, which also happens to be the only crocodile farm in Europe.  The cafe was delicious

There was other animals to visit..

And we queued in the shop to buy goodies, although we declined the crocodile meat on sale!

Here you can see the crocs feeding time..

Saturday night was another night out..(two in a row! no wonder I’m tired this morning!)

Sun was work all day, booooooooo but it was good. Other things included..

*Watching the film ‘Next’ on DVD with Mr D

*Visited a friend with sis for Panini's and cupcakes

*Sold my old car on ebay! woooohoooooo!

*Finally finished the Christmas rota for work.. relief..

Here’s to another great week!

I don’t often talk (type) about my purchases, tbh I actually buy a lot of my clothes either from charity shops or they are given to me.  But every now and then I am known to spend a penny or two :)

This coat I actually bought way back in August.  I just can’t tell you how much I love it.

010 (2)

I had seen it in the window of the shop previously for £199, and even though I loved it there was no way I was paying that.

Then the shop had a sale, so I had to go in and see. £130 was the price, so I went away and dreamt a bit more.

The next time I went in to drool it was reduced to £99. It was my birthday and I had been given some money by various people, which meant I only had to pay £20 in ‘real’ money.  Now that’s what I’d call a bargain.

The fact that I’ve never worn this coat out (ive tried it on and worn it around the house a bit lol) (come on admit it…you do that too) does not mean that I don’t love it. The occasion has just never been right. But it will be one day. I think I may just wear it down the high street tomorrow.  Because I can :)

A more recent purchase was my new winter boots.

007 (2)

I have a boot thing.  There’s a lot of boots out there I don’t like. They don’t feel comfortable.  They aren’t the right length.  They have a wedge or heel they are the wrong colour etc.  But these.  I love them.

I’ve worn these a lot.  I have been told that I look like Nanny Mcphee when I wear these with my tights and skirts, I hope that is just from the waist down, or I may just have to put a bag over my head.

I’m ready for the cold weather now!:)

Honey I’m Home!

Yep Yorkshire was fab, but I’m home now, and have had a scrub to wash the smell of smoke from my body and hair. Granny smokes.  A lot.  So everything needs washed that went into her house.

We chilled out, went shopping,  (I got the throw I wanted! And 2 new scarves from the market stall. Happy Days :) took Granny out for the afternoon, even though she protested and said we would have more fun without her, we told her she could sit in front of the TV any time, but this day she would enjoy a trip out whether she liked it or not :)  And she did.  Enjoy herself that is :)

This morning we watched the Remembrance Parade in London, we thought we may catch sight of my Dad and his brother who take part in the parade, but we didn’t see them before we had to get on the road home.  Granny told us some stories from the war, about her family who died, and about the WRVS making rice pudding for the men coming home as they thought it was a treat (Rice was a luxury for the people at home) The poor men had been living on rice while they were away so rice pudding was the last thing they wanted to look at!

Today was a day to remember.  And we did.  Hope you did too.

Family Time

Other things may change us, but we start and end with the family.

This weekend I’m going on a little road trip with my sister, to Yorkshire to see this lady

AKA Granny Burn :)

We will be spending the weekend getting Granny to show us her sewing, watching DVD’s  (hmmmm what to take? I’m tempted to take Lost in Austin..Love that series) and shopping in the Market town just up the road.  (Scarves from the market as I’ve managed to lose 2 of mine :(, Cosy Blanket from Barkers which I saw last time we were there but when we went to buy it the store was SHUT!, Magazines, Books, ooooo the wish list is endless!)

Granny doesn't  like to go out after dark anymore, but that’s ok as we will be more than happy to snuggle up with a blanket and break out the wine and chocs!

I’m so looking forward to spending time with my sis, even tho i talk to her every day and see her probably every other day, it will be nice for us to be ‘running away’ together for a couple of days.

Oh, and as it’s been pointed out to me that I actually missed my family out of my last post (what the hell was i thinking!?)

Here is a little tribute to them :)

old computer pics 022

Mum, Dad, Sis and littlest niece Aileen somewhere on holiday in Scotland.  My parents are both Scottish and regularly go back for holidays.

I really loved changing schools and making new friends.  And look.  I don’t think they did a bad job bringing me up!?  I mean, I’m not a bad kid really ;)

And here is Aileen again. Cuteness.

BIL Steve :) playing at war (you’d be amazed what my family get up to in their spare time lol)  Sis and Steve got together when she was 18 (I think) she got pregnant with Aarron and the rest, as they say is history :)

n527148140_780911_4158Kirstin My biggest Niece, who sometimes thinks she’s our surrogate daughter :)

And Aarron, my Nephew.  Typical boy, the only pic I have of him is from way back when. And yep they are somewhere in Scotland on holiday again :)

sis and me with cupcakes

Me & my big sis :) Caroline. BTW we don’t usually dress  like Stepford Wives. It was fancy dress. Honest.

I can have fun with her, I can moan and whinge at her, or we can just sit and eat cupcakes.  It’s all good :)

So there you have us. My closest family members…apart from Mr D, maybe he will get a post all of his own ;)

Have a FAB Weekend!!

In Your Prime?

I was reading an article in a magazine, (yep as i have the day off, I am sitting here surrounded by all the magazines I have bought and not had chance to read lately!) about when is a woman at their best?

The decision ‘they’ came to was 38!

I am 38!

I am in my Prime!!

I totally agree.. at 38, I:

1. Love my Husband, who I have been with since I was 16 :)

2. Love our home, where we have lived for about 18 years. It’s not huge, (it’s actually small) it’s not trendy or full of the latest gadgets, (our TV is the one that Mr D bought when he was 18, it’s not big, it’s not flat screen, it’s not silver!) But our home is cosy, comfy, and we haven’t got into huge debt keeping up with the neighbours :)

3. Love my job (even if it stresses me out would be boring without challenges right?)

4. Love my work/life balance. I’m no career woman. I work to live not the other way around. (love that I can sit here blogging in the middle of the day, in my PJ’s :))

5. Love my (smallish) group of friends who I know would be there for me no matter what :)

6. Love my look. (sorry should I say that? Well tough!) I feel as though I am looking pretty good and not too old, I’m quite confident in the clothes I choose and really to be honest don’t care if sometimes I look a bit ‘unfashionable’ I’m comfortable. I’m wearing what I like. So there.

7. Love Life!!!!!

Here’s some other 38yr old ladies

Yep, I reckon 38 is the age to be :)

What do you think?

Saturday Fun!!

Saturday fun started on Friday this weekend! I must make that happen more often! :)

Friday morning we hopped on the train to Cambridge.

We were pleased to learn that when travelling in a group of 4 adults, you get the train tickets half price!! So it only cost 32 pounds for 4 returns. Fab.  This is worth remembering, as train fares aren’t cheap. It would be worth making friends with people and/or possibly stalking them on their journey in order to get the 4 person discount ;)

Friday night we had tea in a Mexican restaurant, right in the same complex.

We booked into the Travel Lodge, which they have, very conveniently, built for us next door to our fav venue, The Junction.  If you are a live music fan, The Junction is a fabulous venue to go to.

I wore my new dress which was my wee treat to myself. Cos I'm worth it :)

Then we saw two bands who we have followed for a good few years..and met a group of friends :) It’s always nice to meet up with friends :)

Not a very good pic, but you get the idea :) And no. Those people you see at the front of the stage did not dance.  How much does that bug the hell out of me. Dance people! Move your feet! Or go home and listen to the CD from your sofa, just get out of my way so that I can boogie!!!! (it has to be said tho I’m quite good at getting people to move. Usually they get scared of my hair flicking in their face.) Ha!

In the end, 6 of us stayed at the Travel Lodge, the others drove home.

This is us at 12.30am in the bar of the Travel Lodge. Everything about a Travel Lodge screams, basic, but it’s just the job if you only want somewhere to shut your eyes for a night. The rooms were clean, if not greatly equipped, and the rustling of the plastic (!) mattress protector didn’t keep me awake after a few ciders…

We spent our Saturday exploring Cambridge, which I always love, and am always amazed at the millions of cyclists.  They outnumber every other mode of transport probably 2-1.  Oh and they take no prisoners, so you better make sure you look out for them before stepping out!

This was a great way to spend a couple of days, and we plan to do it again when the time arises.

The rest of the weekend is work (my sleep-in job tonight and the shop tomorrow morning) Tomorrow afternoon I will be picking up my niece who is spending the morning with Mr D learning to ride a motorbike. Now there will be a tale to tell you I’m sure!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Oh and the neighbours haven’t gone yet. Or spoken. BUT……HE smiled at me the other day!!! eeeeeek do you think he reads my blog!!!!?????? hahaha

Dear Neighbours

(The letter that I’m never gonna send. But would love to)

I see that you have your house up for sale?  3 years seems to have  flown by doesn't it? I can’t say i was that surprised, as that little terrace house next door to us seems to be popular with young, first time buyers, who up sticks and ‘move on up’ the housing ladder in a few years.. Well good luck to you and your bigger mortgage.

I was just wondering though..before you go…if you could answer some of my questions?

Is there an actual ZIP attached to your lips that is permanently closed..or is it just closed when you come within 10 feet of me?

I think I could count on one hand, the amount of one syllable words you have bothered yourself to mutter to me in the 3 years you have lived there. I don’t look that scary, in fact, most of the time I am very normal looking. A lot of people would say that I am even a nice, friendly, sociable person.

Why does it take you 3 days to put your recycling/rubbish bins back to the back of the house? They are in the middle of the pavement.  You practically have to dodge past them every time you go in and out of your house!

What do you dooooo all evenings/weekends when you aren’t working!? It’s certainly not moving your bins back to the correct place/it definitely doesn't include any type of gardening, I'm surprised you get any light in your front room with the size of the triffids you have growing at the front of your house. And the back garden? You may as well live in a flat the amount of attention you give it.

I’m wondering if those i pod earphones are surgically attached in your ears?  Is that why you don’t communicate with anyone?  Do you wear them to bed? Is it like a comfort blanket? What would happen if I came and snatched them out? Would you spontaneously combust?  Do you know how unsociable and downright blinking rude it is to have them in all the time!? Do you care? I mean, you may as well be a statue.

So I guess we will be getting new neighbours soon.  That will be a breath of fresh air, hopefully.  You will be off to pastures new.  To thrill someone else with your personality.

I would say it’s been a great 3 years having you as a neighbour.

But. It Hasn’t. So I won’t.
