My New Favourite Place :)

I thought I would show you all my new favourite place, while we were away in Shropshire for Mr D's 40th, we went on a trip to Ironbridge. This is a fabulous little village, go here to read more about it.

But really, I’m not sure why I’m telling you about that when this is what you really want to see!!

Welcome to Queenies.  Home of the vintage tea party, complete with the cutest mismatched vintage china & delicious cupcakes.

How excited was I you may ask. Well Quite Excited :)

Mr D couldn’t quite work it out…how come we ended up here  when this was supposed to be his Birthday treat?!

Well I’m telling you, once I had peered through that window & spied the cute little waitresses all dressed up in their vintage outfits, it would be a cold day in Hell before you would be able to drag me past without going in.

I mean, really how can you not love these knitted tea cosies?

And look at the wedding cakes!! All those decorations are hand crafted, I know this as I watched the wee lass sitting making purple flowers

Go here to check out their website, although I have to say it doesn't do them justice. This place is a must visit if you are ever in the area!

Well I have to go get ready for more 4oth celebrations..out with MIL then on to a pub where a few close friends are meeting us..

Teeny Weenie Girl Crush & Book Review No 4!!

(Testing Testing....Ive had another go at my scheduled posts....hope this one appears when it should!)

This week I have been reading this book, well it’s a book that you browse through really, a book you can dip in and out of at leisure, not necessarily having to read it in chapter order..kind of magazine style..

For those of you not in-the-know, Fearne Cotton is an English Television and radio presenter & Holly Willoughby is an English television presenter and model. They got to know each other through their work and have been best friends for ten years. And how blinking cute are they?

This book is, as it says, the Best Friends Guide To Life, how to keep friends, which friends are worth it and which are using you, how far is too far when it comes to telling best friends the truth.. with little stories along the way of their own, often funny tales. Lets be honest, It’s not going to win any prizes for literature , but it’s one of those books that looks cute on the table, feels good to handle, and is printed all cute with little diagrams, varied fonts, which all add to it being a nice read.

First 5 sentences..When cutting up your cake of life, it is very tempting to make this slice the biggest, boldest, bestest slice of all. After all your mates are certainly one of the most important things in your life! They make you happy, they get you drunk, they keep you sane, and they pick up the pieces when it all goes wrong. And unlike your family, who are foisted on you at birth, you get to choose your mates. And hopefully you have made soe good choices.

Where I got my hands on it.. Mr D bought me this for Christmas after he got the hint here!

The cover...Girly

Made me want to..Appreciate my friends more

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. I’m going to give this to one of my very good friends, we only see each other a few times a year, so I will be keeping it safe for her :)

ps......I've sent out my first little surprise to my Birthday girl for The Love and Envelopes Birthday Club! Her Bday was yesterday so she will have to wait for my card to fly over to her...I will do a post next week :) eeeeeeeexciting Mail!!

Soooo Tired..

I am so tired right now, any chance of any sympathy?

I have just worked two nights on the trot (as well as working in the shop in the daytime) at the little lady’s house, even though it’s a sleepover, it’s not the same.. late to bad, up at the crack of dawn..and her dog got me up twice last night to be let out..!

I’ off to work in a minute for the day, and all I want to do is crawl onto a bed and float away…..

So words of encouragement would help big time.

On the plus side….I’m packing tonight woooooohoooooooo ;)

Big Sisters are the best

ok, let me start by saying, This post was supposed to be published this morning, I thought I was getting all technical and scheduled it to publish today. Lets just  say Blogger and I have had words. And some of the are not repeatable.

Ok so we all know that I have the best big sister on the planet..

But guess what? now I have a special Big Sister/Blog Mentor! I mean really, just how lucky can one girl get?

Her name is Lindsay and you can find her over here at her extremely stylish blog,  from the aisle to aloha.

This Blog Mentor programme is all down to this lovely lady  Krysten  who if you don’t know already, you should really head over and get to know. It feels quite nice to have someone I can go to for advice every now and then..

You should also go check out Lindsay’s etsy shop where she sells her fabulous fresh modern paintings that would brighten up any room :)

I’m excited to be part of this, and from the short time I’ve known Lindsay, I would say that it’s definitely going to be worth while!

Today I’m going into town to see if I can find a wee something for hubbie’s Birthday at the weekend. He will be 40  (yeh…I know! I’m married to a 40 yr old haha!)..ive got a special post coming up to introduce him formally to you, you lucky things! I need to pack, (I’m whisking him off for the weekend) Oh yeah, then there’s the little matter of work. Best get off this sofa…

To Follow..Or Not…

I have bitten the proverbial bullet as it were, and have added the little follow gadget thingumy to my blog..see it there on the right?

So now you can follow me…wherever my little blog will take us in the coming months..

Did you notice I’m making more of an effort in 2011? Well I am. Hubbie has noticed.  He says maybe I’m getting a little bit obsessive with my blog.   He could well be right. But There are worse things to obsess about right?

So if you’re up for it, go ahead. But you don’t have to.  Just. You know. If you wanted to come along for the ride.

Oh, and I have to tell you about my Big sister/Blog mentor, but she’s getting a special post all of her own, so that will have to wait for now, come back later to meet her :)

Something to watch

Now and again, a series comes on tv and i think ‘yes i really want to catch that!

Then, don’t you just know that they would broadcast it at a time when I won’t be able to watch it..I the afternoon? come on..give a girl a break.

As I don’t have technology that would allow me to series link it, or anything fancy like that…and I cant watch the first series on i-player as they have stopped broadcasting it (meaning, I’ve missed the boat,) I’ve decided..I am going to treat myself to this series…

Don’t you just love the 1940’s look?

Has anyone seen this? Is it as good as it looks?

I’ll leave you with a pic of Mr D and I trying to look the part :)

We are on the left :)

us all

Whaddyathink? Would we get the part?!

Book Review No. 3!

This is what I’ve been reading this week..

You’ve all heard of The Time Travellers Wife?  Well this is her next book.

When Elspeth Noblin dies she leaves her beautiful flat overlooking Highgate Cemetery to her twin nieces, Julia & Valentina Poole, on the condition that their mother is never allowed to cross the threshold.  But until the solicitors letter falls through the door of their suburban American home, neither Julia or Valentina knew their aunt existed.  The twins hope that in London their own, separate, lives can finally begin but they have no idea that they have been summoned into a tangle of fraying lives, from the obsessive-compulsive crossword setter who lives above them to their aunts mysterious and elusive lover, who lives below them and works in the cemetery itself.

As the twins unravel the secrets of their aunt, who doesn’t seem quite ready to leave her flat, even after death, Niffenegger weaves together a delicious and deadly ghost story about love, loss and identity.

First 5 sentences..Elspeth died while Robert was standing in front of the vending machine watching tea shoot into a small plastic cup.  Later he would remember walking down the hospital corridor with the cup of horrible to in his hand, alone under the fluorescent lights, retracing his steps to the room where Elspeth lay surrounded by machines.  She had turned her head towards the door and her eyes were open, at first Robert thought she was conscious.  In the seconds before she died, Elspeth remembered a day last spring when she and Robert had walked along a muddy path by the Thames in Kew Gardens. There was a smell of rotted leaves, it had been raining.

Where I got my hands on it.. My mum bought me this for Christmas, I was so pleased as I had looked at this on the shelf but hadn’t bought it due to my self imposed book buying ban (i really want to get my to-be-read pile down!)

The cover...Mysterious

Made me want to..Believe in Ghosts

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. Sis, as it’s just her kind of book!

After loving The Time Travellers Wife so much, I couldn’t wait to read this. As with The Time Traveller, this book had me believing that un natural things could in fact occur. I am thinking to myself, yes actually it seems quite justifiable for there to be ghosts, just as in Time Travellers I didn’t once think it was unbelievable for someone to Travel through time.  In both her books she answers the questions of What if?

This is a story of relationships, Love, Grief and Identity (especially if you are a twin). This was definitely not a disappointment.

I’m wondering if it will be made into a film, and if they do, I hope it turns out better than A Time Travellers Wife. Really disliked that film.

Minimal Living. Or not.

I admit. I’m no fan of the trendy ‘minimal living’. You know, clean lines, uncluttered work surfaces, tables with a strategically placed vase of freshly cut flowers…and very little else.

It could be an age thing (yeah cos i’m sooo old) but I have noticed, that with a lot of my friends that are younger than me, their house is of the minimal variety. Whereas most of my older friends have gone for the ‘lived in’ look.

Maybe it’s because as you get older you accumulate more stuff. Or maybe you care less when you get older. I like to have a lot of my stuff around me. Books. Magazines. Notepads. My bag ready to pick up and go. A half eaten packet of biscuits ready for the next cup of tea. I like to have cosy throws draped over my sofas.

I want to ask..if you go for the minimal look..’ where’s all your stuff!?’ Do you hide it in cupboards? Isn’t it tiring moving it all out of sight?

What do you think? is the 'Lived in' look just an excuse for not being a domestic goddess? Or is Minimal living just a way of having nothing to actually dust?

Just wondering, sat surrounded by my stuff in front of the fire….
