Book Review No. 7 :)

I saw this film advertised in the cinema, and really wanted to see it, then when I saw the book for a pound..well I just couldn’t help myself…

Driving around the country now, I see things that will remind me of Hailsham…

As children, Ruth Kathy anad Tommy spend their childhood at a seemingly idylic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

Never Let Me Go is an unforgettable story of love, friendship and the fragility of life.

First 5 sentences..My name is Kathy H. I’m thirty one years old, and I’ve been a carer now for over eleven years. That sounds long enough, I know, but actually they want me to go on for another eight months, until the end of this year. That’ll make it almost exactly twelve years. Now I know that me being a carer so long isn’t necessarily because they think I’m fantastic at what I do.

Where I got my hands on it.. I bought another book for somebody I can’t mention as it’s a present, and the offer in WHS was ‘buy one get one for a pound’! So…well…it would be rude not to wouldn’t it?!

The cover.. Show scenes from the film. Which I would like to see now I’ve read the book

Made me want to… Read Remains of The Day, which is by the same author

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. Anyone want this one? Just let me know!

I LOVED this book, it’s by far my favourite read of the year. Kathy reminisces about her childhood while driving around the country side, she is a ‘donor in waiting’ which in itself is a horrifying thought. This is quite a disturbing story, but told in such a way that I couldn’t decide if I felt sorry for the children or not. On the one hand what awaited them was horrific, but on the other hand thanks to Hailsham school, they got to lead a somewhat ‘normal life’ and they had each other.

I definitely recommend this one

Thank you all for your comments while I was feeling sorry for myself. No time for feeling sorry for myself today (or this week!) as I have 2 businesses to look after while the bosses are away!
