My Gypsy Easter

Easter Weekend.  We packed up the Reo, and off we went to camp in the woods :)

Here was home for two nights amongst the Blue Bells

I took my bike, so that I could cycle to work and do my shift on Saturday, and Mr D attached the flower garland which a friend brought me back from Holland :)

Doesn't it look lovely?

We had a couple of goes at getting it ‘just right’ :)

Remember I told you how much I love my bike! Well now I love it even more, all dressed up in pretty’s.

After the second night, we up skittled  and went to the river side to camp with friends.

Look at that glorious sunshine. This has been the hottest Easter I can remember.

There was fun in the river, while the tide allowed.

Is it wrong of me to want to live the Gypsy life more often?

So, not to go on about it….but….how much did we LOVE the Royal Wedding? There are so many great pictures over the internet..but I couldn’t let you go without sharing the funniest moment of the day :)

Don’t you just get the feeling he ALWAYS wanted to do that!?

Book Review no. 14 (the one you’ve been waiting for)

While at Grannies house I bought this book. You know how I loved these as a teenager. I was so excited to see this on the shelf as I didn’t think it was out in paper back yet.

It’s been ten years since the Wakefield twins graduated from Sweet Valley High, and a lot has happened.

For a start, Elizabeth and Jessica have had a falling out of epic proportions, after Jessica committed the ultimate betrayal, and this time it looks like Elizabeth will never be able to forgive her.

Suddenly Sweet Valley isn’t big enough for the two of them, so Elizabeth has fled to New York to immerse herself in her lifelong dream of becoming a serious reporter, leaving a guilt-stricken Jessica contemplating the unthinkable: life without her sister.

Despite the distance between them, the sisters are never far from each other’s thoughts. Jessica longs for forgiveness, but Elizabeth can’t forget her twin’s duplicity. Uncharacteristically, she decides the only way to heal her broken heart is to get revenge. Always the ‘good’ twin, the one getting her headstrong sister out of trouble, Elizabeth is now about to turn the tables...

First 5 sentences.. Elizabeth had turned the key in the fox lock., releasing a heavy metal bar that scraped across the inside of the front door with an impressive prison gate sound, and was about to attack the Segal lock when the phone in the apartment started to ring.  By the time she had opened the second lock and was sliding the key into the last one, this was New York, after all- the phone was on the fourth ring.  At almost midnight, it had to be the West Coast calling.  She could still grab it in time, but Elizabeth didn’t hurry.  Slow, with purpose, slow, giving the internal anger and hurt time to shoot from zero to a hundred.

Where I got my hands on it.. Water Stones. Yeah. I know. Brand new. BUT it was on a 3 for 2 special. And really? you would have too wouldn’t you?

The cover.. Took me right back to high school :)

Made me want to…  Go to ebay and buy the whole set to read again!

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?..  I’m going to force my friend to read this. She was my partner in Sweet Valley love.

I have to mention something about the dialog in this book. The way Jessica ‘talks’ I found pretty annoying. She uses the word ‘like’ a lot in a sentence. example:

The air in the car chills, and the front seat extends, like two blocks; we are that  disconnected.

I know that people use this word a lot in ‘real’ life, I’m guilty myself even though I hate myself for it, but for some reason reading it in the book irritated me!!

It’s so fun to see Elizabeth fighting back :) But I won’t spoil it for you.

Apart from that….this is everything a true Sweet Valley addict would wish for. I didn’t read the SVU books, so I was completely clueless about Todd!!!!! OMG!!

Read it!! I did In a couple of days while camping over Easter.

Photos of camp to come but here’s a sneak preview cos I know you can’t wait to see the Blue Bells :)

Are you counting down to The Royal Wedding? I am. I can’t wait.

Easter Weekend :)

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Easter Weekend.

We drove the lorry to the woods last night & slept out :) I’ve just cycled home as I have to work this afternoon, but I will be back around the camp fire later.

The Blue Bells are out at the woods. I can’t wait to show you the pictures, but that will have to wait, as tomorrow we are packing up the lorry & taking it to another place, to camp with some friends. There will be bonfires, BBQ’s and Kayaking at the river.

Who needs a house anyway, they are so over rated :)

Hope the Easter Bunny visits you.

Fun at Grannie’s House

Back home from 2 nights of fun in Yorkshire. The sun shone. Wed is Market Day :)

Girlie time at Grannie’s included…

Fish & Chips..(Granny dosn’t get out to get her own takeaways much).

Wine…yup, woke up in the early hours to hear Gran’s TV on…the wine had made her fall asleep in bed before turning it off. Bad influence? Us?

B&Q for pensioner’s day, where we filled Gran’s boot with plants for her garden.

Tea & Scones in the sun for lunch!! YUM!!

Please ignore the Christmas place mats, they were the nearest to hand :)

Oh & I decided as I was on holiday I was allowed to buy this book…well you know I’ve been wanting it….

I also came home with two carrier bags of books from Gran. Oh how I love having a Gran that reads a lot :)

Good Friday Tomorrow!! I have to work in the morning. It’s so hot here! And the Fair is in town! Joy. Customers. Hah. I kid. Mostly.

Girl time overload

Sat, while the boys went to a gig to see some noisy band, we watched these films. (tried to watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s but for some reason her DVD player wouldn’t play my disk!:( )

I presume that everyone has seen this movie?? If not then that can be your homework, and as an extra incentive..look who flashes some flesh..

Then we watched this one

Awww bit of Johnny Depp never hurt anyone..

Hadn’t seen it for years and forgot how good it was.

Last night was weekly ‘craft night’ with Lisa, I’m (slowly)  making a half apron, lots of floral material & lace. I may show and tell at some point. Lisa if you are reading this, the Chocolate buttons may have been eaten before you got to your car…

Today I’m off to Yorkshire to visit Granny with sis. 2 days of sewing, reading and watching movies. We may venture out to the local market town. We may not.

Easter weekend is nearly here!! Easter eggs!!!! woooohoooooo

Treats :)

A while back, I joined a swap organised by Jess at Life.  This is how I met the lovely Marianne at  Royal Mail.

DSC09004  Say hello to my fab Swap Partner :)

The point of the swap was to send your partner something from Etsy.

Look what I received from her in may mail last week

Postcard sets from one of my favourite Bloggers and Etsy stores.

Vanessa at A Fanciful Twist

As I am a bit of a stationary addict, this really made me smile. Thanks Marianne!  And To Jess of course for matching us up :)

The thing about Etsy Sellers is they really do know that it’s all about the packaging. Everything I’ve ever bought from that site has been so beautifully wrapped and the sellers are always so helpful.

Also through my mail box came two books from Book Mooch.

imagesCAUDUYB4 Have you heard of this site? You register books that you are willing to give away, and gain points when you post them. With your points you can request (mooch) books from other users. It’s such a great site for book worms! The only tip I would give is not to list too many books at one time to give away or you can end up with a big postage bill! I usually list a few, then gather some points and ‘spend’ them before listing more books :) I like to save up points in my account, then every now and again, spend an hour browsing the virtual bookshelves and ‘shopping’ it really does feel great getting ‘free’ books through the door!

Happy Mooching!

Oh, I should put you all out of your misery and tell you who won the Book Giveaway.

A Daisy Chain Dream

This weekend is flying by. Sleepover at a friends tonight while the boys go to a gig :) Girlie DVD’s recommendations?

Catching up & Book review No. 13

Soooo The Geeks (aka very nice men) fixed my laptop! Yipppppeeeeee!!

Only trouble is I have so much to catch up on I may have to pull a sickie..from work….from normal life….just so that I can sit and relish in my virus free virtual life

I now have a virus zappy thingy installed by good old Dad & have been given instructions on how to beat the bad spy monsters.

Don’t think I didn’t read a book last week either….I’m just behind on the review…so here goes.

More YA fiction for you. This is just about right for me at the moment, not too much thinking needed, just a bit of escapism from the real world that is annoying me lately.

This was kind of appropriate, wish I was a Gallagher Girl, to get rid of my own virtual Spy Monsters!

Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses – but it’s really a school for spies. Cammie Morgan is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways (three of which involve a piece of uncooked spaghetti). But the one thing the Gallagher Academy hasn’t prepared her for is what to do when she falls for an ordinary boy who thinks she’s an ordinary girl.

Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, and track him through a mall without his ever being the wiser, but can Cammie have a normal relationship with a boy who can never know the truth about her?

First 5 sentences.. I suppose a lot of teenage girls feel invisible sometimes, like they just disappear.  Well, that's me – Cammie the Chameleon.  But I’m luckier than most, because, at my school, that’s considered cool.  I go to a school for spies. Of course, technically, the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a school for geniuses – not spies – and we’re free to pursue any career that befits our exceptional educations.

Where I got my hands on it.. Charity shop trawl.  Last week. I succumbed to the temptation of a 1.00 book.  Again.

The cover.. I nearly didn’t pick this up. It wasn’t in the YA section, charity shops aren’t very good at getting the book sections right…so when I glanced at the cover..I thought it was…well….of a different genre….Haha! But then I did a double take.

Made me want to… I’ll definitely look out for the other books in this series.

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?..  I might hang on to this until I find the others…only because if it’s a while, I may need a little refresher!

I did enjoy reading this, I’d never heard of this series before, but it was an enjoyable, quick read, and I liked Cammie. Funny how YA fiction has moved on from when I was a YA. Then it was all Sweet Valley now its Vampires and spies haha!

I’m dying to catch up on every one’s lives. I’ll be back tomorrow with the winner the giveaway, and the swap parcels!!

Say Ahhhhhhhh

It seems my poor Dell has picked up a bug. Or two. Or 1,645.

Yeh I know. Annoying little beggers aren't they?

So off to the nice men (aka geeks) (I mean that in the nicest possible way) it's gone to get some tlc. It can take up to 7 DAYS the men said! There must be a backlog of bug filled laptops to get through!

I'm stealing Mr D's laptop to write this. Don't tell him :)

I'm trying not to feel like my right arm has been cut off while i'm without it

I will try and still visit and post.. If you like, you could send some healing thoughts.. :)x

Bunking off

Last week Mr D and I ‘Bunked off’ work and took the motorbike for a spin. The plan was to go to Southwold. I began to notice however that we seemed to be going in totally the wrong direction. It’s not as easy as when you’re sitting in the passenger seat of the car and you can just point at road signs saying…ummmmm shouldn’t we have gone that way??’

So not wanting to smack Mr D on the shoulder and break his concentration along the single track country roads, I kept quiet.

This is where we ended up. In a little village of Debenham.

Mr D had seen this little tea shop in the local paper and had decided it would be exactly my kind of place.

He’d be right about that :)

They make the tea pots in the little pottery, (orders were being made for Harrods while we were there) and you can sit and have a cup of tea in the little tea room, with a scone & jam. Yum.

We did then get to Southwold eventually. For those who don’t know, one of these lovely colourful beach huts will set you back 25-30 thousand pounds. Yep you read that right.

No trip to Southwold is complete without a trip to the pier. Please don’t judge the ‘biker chic’

Then of course there is the Light House

As you can see, the clouds found us, but luckily it stayed dry for the journey home :)

Don’t you just love days out?

This week was also a good week for my door matt in the way of treats!! I’ll do a post about them soon! :)

My Teenage Bookworm Self

I have always read books, through primary school I was off to the library pretty sharp-ish to trade in a book for another new one. I couldn’t wait to read it and then on to the next one. Like there was so many books to read and only a life time to read them.

Then I became a teenager. And lucky for me I found a best friend in high school who shared the same love for books as me. Every week we would go to the bookshop, spend our pocket money on a book each, read them and swap them, then on to the next one!

We were very into the Sweet Dreams books.

Then came Sweet Valley High, and The Wakefield Twins were who I wanted to be friends with.

Between us I think we had the whole set. Which was about 150 if I remember rightly. And there was the Super Editions, which were like separate one off stories like Perfect Summer..Spring Break…

Hopping around the blogosphere the other day, I found out a very interesting piece of info. I can’t remember who’s blog I saw it on so if it was yours let me know!!

Oh. My. How I want to read this. I wonder what they are up to 10 years later?!

By the way. If you watched the TV series of this which was aired over here in about the mid- 90’s, please don’t judge the books by them. The books are every teenage British girls dream of an American High School experience. The TV series I couldn’t bear to watch.

I can’t remember when I got rid of these books but I’m regretting it. I never see them in charity shops either. Hmmmm. Ebay?

Anyone read them?

I have had the best day today with Mr D. He knows how to treat his little wifey. I’ll tell all soon.

De- Cluttering

I’ve been having a virtual de-clutter.  It was getting out of hand. Sometimes when I logged on to Face Book, my entire homepage was taken up with one pages various posts, or I was seeing photo’s of people that I don’t ever contact, am not interested in, and really don’t want to see them in their various state of drunkenness.

So I had a cull. Un- friend-ed and Un-liked said pages and people.

And the same goes for my Blogs that I follow. Seriously, I could spend a good couple of hours reading the blog list, and half the time I really don’t care about the content. So I ‘managed’ my reader list. Got rid of some blogs that I don’t ever even click on anymore. Got rid of some where I was constantly ‘talking’ to myself. Isn’t there some kind of Blog etiquette? When someone comments on my blog I always make the effort to visit them and comment back. Otherwise it just feels a bit..well….rude.  No-one likes to be ignored.

I feel so much lighter for it.

It’s been so hot here today. This is the closest we’ve come for a long time to running out of ice cream :0 good job i was there at 8 this morning making some, just need to wait for it to deep freeze and get it in the cabinet for tomorrow!!

Not that I’m worrying about tomorrow.

Because tomorrow Mr D is taking me out somewhere nice. Date Day. Because we deserve it. And I need it. Like I’ve never needed it before.

Book Review 12! (& a little Giveaway for you )

This is the book I’ve been reading this week. A first Novel by a fellow Blogger. How exciting is it to be reading a novel by someone you feel as though you ‘know!’

When man-eater Mattie Johns agrees to star on a dating game show to save her ailing recruitment business, she's confident she'll sail through to the end without letting down the perma-guard she's perfected from years of her love 'em and leave 'em dating strategy. After all, what can go wrong with dating a few losers and hanging out long enough to pick up a juicy £50,000 prize? Plenty, Mattie discovers, when it's revealed that the contestants are four of her very unhappy exes. Can Mattie confront her past to get the prize money she so desperately needs, or will her exes finally wreak their long-awaited revenge? And what about the ambitious TV producer whose career depends on stopping her from making it to the end? Who will win The Hating Game?

First 5 sentences.. If I get pheumonia, he’s going to pay,’ Mattie Johns muttered as she gripped the chains of the dunk-tank swing and looked down into the murky water. Several unidentifiable floating objects bobbed on the surface and the water had a funky yellow tint. Bonus if she got diphtheria! She’s sue Stuart for all he was worth, saving her company and putting the loser out of business in one fell swoop. Shame you couldn't sue for boredom, she sighed, shifting her frozen bottom on the swing.

Where I got my hands on it.. Amazon. I know. I don’t make a habit of buying new books, but i did this to support fellow blogger Talli Roland. So really, I’m allowed right?

The cover.. This cover screams Chic Lit, definitely eye catching on the shelf, especially as it’s my favourite colour :)

Made me want to… Buy Talli’s next book when it comes out!!

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. Could be YOU. (see the end of this post for details..)

I really wanted to like this book. Because I do follow Talli, and I’ve been supporting her run up to this book being published. I mean how terrible would it be if you hated your ‘friends’ first published novel?!

Luckily I needn’t have worried. This is Chic Lit at it’s best. I’ve read a lot of chic lit, and you know how they just blur and merge into one another? I sometimes get to the point that I can’t remember one chic lit novel from the next.

This is different though, the story line will definitely make it stand out in your memory from all the other novels on your shelf!

Go show Talli some love.

But, don’t just take my word for it..Would you like it for yourself?

Because I’m so nice I’m going to send it to one of my lucky readers, if you would like this to plop on your doorstep, just leave a comment on this post, and tell me what the last book you read was :)

PS. Happy Mothers Day!

Catching up

We’ve had some nice sunny days lately, I actually got pink skin down on the allotment the other morning :0! And sore muscles from digging!

Other exciting news in the Day household…and reason number four-thousand-and-fifty-seven why I love my husband..

012I got some shelves above my sewing desk!

I can’t tell you how excited these have made me. I can now get to my sewing machine as it isn’t covered in stuff.

All my jars of ribbons and buttons..

And even little hooks for scissors and tools :)

I’ve been catching up with my outgoing mail..

It’s so nice to be able to sit at the desk now and write, instead of on my lap!

Oh…and see the zebra print there on the left…well it’s the frame I won in a giveaway over at Bon Bon Rose Girls. It’s from The Cherry Blossom Sisters. You can go see their Etsy shop here.

I love winning giveaways. I must enter more maybe I should Google ‘giveaways’ ha!

I’ve had a lovely day off today much needed..lunch with my family, charity shopping (i must do a post with my recent hauls..) and reading. AND Mr D just brought me a packet of fruit Polo’s. Yum! What more could a girl need on her day off!?

Also..I bought a new pair of jeans for the bargain price of 10.50. And they fit. Which is hard to come by with jeans these days. Whoever has legs skinny enough to get into those ‘Skinny Jeans’ that seem to be everywhere needs to eat a donut. Or two.

Happy Friday! :) x
