Looking Forward

This time of year I’m looking forward to the show season.

People sometimes look at me as though I’m  from another planet when I say I just want to pack up the truck and go sit in a field for days on end.

But really, they don’t know how much fun it can be. Looking through the vintage stalls.

Of course there is always time to read a book or two :)

Oh, then there’s the wine-and-book-reading ;)

Book Review No.8. And my New Button :)

This week’s read was by Alexandra Potter

m How do you know he's The One?
Are you getting butterflies just thinking about him?
Have you dreamt of marrying him?
Do you just know?
When Lucy meets Nate in Venice, she knows instantly he's The One. And, caught up in the whirlwind of first love, they kiss under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset. Which – according to legend – will tie them together forever.
But ten years later, they’ve completely lost contact. That is, until Lucy moves to New York and the legend brings them back together. Again. And again. And again.
But what if Nate isn't The One? How is she going to get rid of him? Because forever could be a very long time...
A funny, magical romantic comedy about how finding The One doesn't always have to mean happily ever after

First 5 sentences..Venice Italy 1999, The summer heat creates a shimmering haze, through which Venice appears like a Canaletto brought to life. The dome of St Marks Cathedral rises above the pastel-coloured buildings, with their pealing paint and time weary elegance.  Vaporetti buzz.  Tourists throng. Among the crowds, children run in the square, scattering pigeons; men in sharp suits and designer shades sit smoking cigarettes; a guide with his umbrella talks history to a group of German tourists.

Where I got my hands on it.. Another charity shop purchase, with the grand sum of1.00 pencilled in the inside cover.

The cover.. Chic lit text. Similar to other Alexandra Potter novels, even old ones that they have re covered (which by the way is a HUGE pain in the ass to me as they re publish and re vamp the covers and i get all confused as to whether I’ve read it or not)

Made me want to… Believe in Fate.

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?..  This is going on the friend pile. Which is teetering dangerously. In fact I must make the effort as I saw her at the weekend and she gave me a pile of her books.

I’ve read a few of novels by Alexandra, and I’ve always found them really entertaining in a funny, romantic, magical kind of way. I have to say though this was one of my least favourites of hers, although it was a light hearted easy read book.

I was annoyed with Lucy. Hated Nate from the start. I find myself shouting inside my head GET RID OF HIM HE’S A PLONKER!! haha anyone else do that? Oh just me then.

I would recommend other novels by Alexandra before this one..Who’s That Girl..Be careful What You Wish For..

Oh and have you seen my new blog button? Just down there…on the right.. Kindly made for my by Brittany. Cute Huh?

Other weekend news… The Party was a HUGE success lots of people came, and it was great to have everyone all together. The band were a great success, there was lots of dancing. (my ankle aches).

Can you believe it’s March this week! That means SPRING is almost SPRINGING haha

The 40th Bday Celebrations continue..

Remember when Mr D turned 40? Well tonight is the party he is sharing with two friends.

So on  we will be spending the evening at a local venue, and there will be a very full house at Chateau Day, by way of bed and breakfast. We’ve even parked this outside the house by way of an extension for a couple of friends to sleep in :)

Reo Bentwaters 2

The evening entertainment will be provided by a group of musician friends  that have been practicing the tunes of Chuck Berry. Cos we like a bit of Check Berry.  A lot. And if you don’t then remind me, why are we friends?

I’m having a slight outfit moment. What to wear that will be comfortable to Rock & Roll in. But not too casual. Hmm. Decisions.

So tonight, wherever you are, think of me being a social butterfly, and I’ll be sure to have a Gin & Tonic for you x

That’s ok, what are friends for?

Oh and the Bear isn’t coming to the party. He’s Grounded. Remember?

The day the Bear got grounded

OK, so let me introduce you to Brunty. See him down there on the right? If you click on him, he will take you to the Vulcan to the Sky page, where you can support xh558. The only Vulcan Bomber flying today.

I have my own Brunty Bear. Yes I’m 38years old, and I have a Teddy Bear.

But. If he continues to miss-behave while I’m not around. Well we will have to re think his position in the household.

Mr D says that he had nothing to do with this episode of naughtiness.

But I’m not sure his alibi would stand up in court.  Poor Rabbit is speechless from the trauma.

There is evidence of Mr D not liking my knitted donkey which was bought to support the Donkey Sanctuary.

In fact I would go so far as to say that he used Brunty Bear to do his dastardly deeds for him.

See what I have to put up with? No wonder I’m stressed ;)

Book Review No. 7 :)

I saw this film advertised in the cinema, and really wanted to see it, then when I saw the book for a pound..well I just couldn’t help myself…

image bs

Driving around the country now, I see things that will remind me of Hailsham…

As children, Ruth Kathy anad Tommy spend their childhood at a seemingly idylic English boarding school. As they grow into young adults, they find that they have to come to terms with the strength of the love they feel for each other, while preparing themselves for the haunting reality that awaits them.

Never Let Me Go is an unforgettable story of love, friendship and the fragility of life.

First 5 sentences..My name is Kathy H. I’m thirty one years old, and I’ve been a carer now for over eleven years. That sounds long enough, I know, but actually they want me to go on for another eight months, until the end of this year. That’ll make it almost exactly twelve years. Now I know that me being a carer so long isn’t necessarily because they think I’m fantastic at what I do.

Where I got my hands on it.. I bought another book for somebody I can’t mention as it’s a present, and the offer in WHS was ‘buy one get one for a pound’! So…well…it would be rude not to wouldn’t it?!

The cover.. Show scenes from the film. Which I would like to see now I’ve read the book

Made me want to… Read Remains of The Day, which is by the same author

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. Anyone want this one? Just let me know!

I LOVED this book, it’s by far my favourite read of the year. Kathy reminisces about her childhood while driving around the country side, she is a ‘donor in waiting’ which in itself is a horrifying thought. This is quite a disturbing story, but told in such a way that I couldn’t decide if I felt sorry for the children or not. On the one hand what awaited them was horrific, but on the other hand thanks to Hailsham school, they got to lead a somewhat ‘normal life’ and they had each other.

I definitely recommend this one

Enter the giveaway today as I will be choosing the winner tomorrow (Tues)!

Thank you all for your comments while I was feeling sorry for myself. No time for feeling sorry for myself today (or this week!) as I have 2 businesses to look after while the bosses are away!

Our Story..And a small token of love for you

I first got to know Mr D when I was a teenager. In those good old days, girls would ‘hang out’ on the sea front, play pool in the arcade while watching music videos, drinking coke and thinking we were THAT cool. Sometimes, we would get to know a boy with a car and get him to take us for a cruise around town. Mr D happened to be one of those boys. (yeh, I was a teenager when it was ok to do that sort of stuff, now though, if you knew your daughter was getting into cars with almost-strangers, you’d kill her yourself when she got home!)

The Teenage Mr D. How could I not say yes?

I can hardly believe it was 22 years ago that Mr D plucked up the courage to leave a valentine on my doorstep, ( it was a single rose & a big card, cos when you’re 18 and trying to impress a girl, the size of the card mattered;)

One of my friends actually liked Mr D. But he liked me. She was with me when he rang, and I actually asked her if she minded if I said yes. She said go for it….then didn’t talk to me for weeks. She got over it. Eventually.

Then, after ringing me up to ask me out, he came round on the 16th Feb and took me out in his Triumph Dolomite. The seat covers were furry. And there was a Pink Panther hanging from the mirror. (He still has that Pink Panther)

That night, we went to MacDonald's in Ipswich, those were the days of Pat Benetar on the car stereo, then called in at a country pub on the way home where I had a coke as I was only 16.

The rest as they say is History

This is us on a trip to Thorpe Park Amusement park.

We saved up for a deposit on our first home, which we bought and are still living in . Below is a photo I found of my room when I still lived at home. On my spare bed is things I had been collecting ready for our first home :) I had lots of fun looking through my old albums for pics to post, I may share more old pics with you….or I may not…

And here I am in our home, I’m not quite sure what I’m doing, maybe waiting for some furniture?

This must have been the first Christmas in our house, as you can see we only had a small sofa bed as our sofa.  For the first few months we didn’t have a fridge, we kept our milk in a sink of cold water!

We spent many holidays with a group of friends  in this Bungalow in Martindale, a remote valley Nr Ullswater The Lake District. We haven’t been there for so long, but we may go back..although there is a 2 yr waiting list to book a holiday let me tell you, it’s well worth the wait..

Our first  Wedding Anniversary was spent in a lovely little cottage in Cornwall. By then we had our lovely doggie, Baxter :)x
