A night with the boys

I remember the days when I could go out and dance, get to bed at 3am, then be at work for 8am the next day to stand on my feet all day (I worked in a hairdressers in a previous life)

076

Today however, after getting to bed at 3am, having danced probably about half the night (the other half spent playing with camera settings), having touched not a drop of alcohol, guess what I did?

125 (2)

I managed to get up and be out of the house at 8.45 to do a few community visits for work. (quite proud of my old body for that)

Mr D took us to brunch. WHS for magazines and sweeties, and since then, I have been sat in front of the log fire in my PJ’s.

020

I guess this is what Sundays are for when you get to your 40th year?

086

The Boys did well by the way, I’m sure their Sunday has been just as productive….

Have you done anything productive today?

A twist in The Tale

As I am child less, I did what I usually do when a 12A movie comes out that I want to see. I borrowed one. I find this way works best for me. We sit and stuff ourselves with sugary snacks and drinks, watch & laugh at the movie, then I get to take said child home.
I had read a review of this and it wasn't very favourable, but I decided I wanted to go and see for myself.

We loved it! Lily Collins (daughter of Phil) was a beautiful Snow White, & Julia Roberts a very Wicked Queen. There were several modern twists to the tale, which I don't think were a bad thing.

Aileen (who will be 10 in July) & I laughed a lot, Ate all the popcorn, (sweet...not salted) and had a little dance at he end scene.

There is apparently a second movie out based on the Fairy Tale. Snow White and The Huntsman, I guess this will be darker, has anyone seen that?

The rain is continuous. It hasn't stopped since they announced the hose pipe ban. Good thing we're not made of sugar.

It doesn't always rain in England. (but it does rain a lot)

Boy have we had some water fall in the last week.

Sis & I managed to get to a car boot today to sell some of our accumulated rubbish treasure and rain forced an early pack up, but we still sold a mountain of stuff.

Can I just say I could kiss the organiser of the local Cats Protection car boots, where we don’t have to get there until 10.30am, & they actually lock the gates to the public until 12pm. NO annoying people barging you out of the way of your own car asking for perfume/god/videos.

025

Just sitting here watching The Voice (much to Mr D’s annoyance, (he keeps saying Dr House is on his way to visit, & he could be right..) and remembering the sun we had a couple of weeks ago (or was it last year….)

024

Looking at the forecast I think Zac & I could be getting wet on our walk this week….!

what are you gonna do after you finish reading this.

its up to you

I’ve been thinking about my Blogs lately, sometimes I wonder if there isn’t enough substance. I post about my jolly’s away in our Home on Wheels, the books I read, the cosy times I spend by the fire, pretty things I buy, or dream about.

“Life's not about expecting, hoping and wishing, it's about doing, being and becoming.
It's about the choices you've just made, and the ones you're about to make, it's about the things you choose to say - today.”

My life is good

“Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice: it is not to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”

But I don’t think it’s because I’m lucky or blessed, or that any higher being is pathing the way for me.

My life is the way I made it.

The choices I made along the way have got me where I am today.

“I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance...
I hope you dance…”

My life isn’t perfect. But it is perfect for me. Right now.

“This bright, new day... complete with 24 hours of opportunities, choices, and attitudes… a perfectly matched set of 1440 minutes. This unique gift, this one day, cannot be exchanged, replaced or refunded. Handle with care. Make the most of it. There is only one to a customer.”

Are you happy with your choices so far?

(Welcome to) Rosie Hopkins Sweet Shop of Dreams Book review no. 9

I just read this, and couldn’t wait to tell you all about it.

rosie hopkin's sweet shop of dreams

Were you a sherbet lemon or chocolate lime fan? Penny chews or hard boiled sweeties (you do get more for your money that way)? The jangle of your pocket money ...the rustle of the pink and green striped paper bag ...Rosie Hopkins thinks leaving her busy London life, and her boyfriend Gerard, to sort out her elderly Aunt Lilian's sweetshop in a small country village is going to be dull. Boy, is she wrong. Lilian Hopkins has spent her life running Lipton's sweetshop, through wartime and family feuds. As she struggles with the idea that it might finally be time to settle up, she also wrestles with the secret history hidden behind the jars of beautifully coloured sweets. Welcome to Rosie Hopkins' Sweetshop of Dreams - a novel - with recipes.

First five sentences… Sour Plooms.  This is a Scots term that translates as Sour Plums, but in its original language imitates exactly the contortion of your mouth as soon as you pop one in.  More of an endurance exercise than a threat, this is a hard candy of exquisite, roof of the mouth stripping bitter intensity: the occasional rush of sweetness comes as a blessed relief.  Near-impossible to bite and still maintain an entire set of teeth, they are therefore the ideal purchase for the pocket money strapped child as, number one, they last for ever, and number two they are something of a rarefied taste and therefore require less sharing than other sweets.  Downsides include being a choking hazard: thier bright green colour which renders them very visible to teachers, and their density-a correctly positioned soor ploom can knock out a dog from forty feet.

Where I got my hands on it.. My name is Claire and I am a sucker for a book about starting up any type of shop. Esp one about an old fashioned sweet shop. So I had to buy it. Just had to.

The cover.. Very much like the last Jenny Colgan book I read..Meet me at the Cup Cake Cafe – read my review here – which told me that it would be written in the same style. And it was. Much to my delight.

Made me.. I am a sweetie lover. Always have been. I thank my parents for never being overly strict when it came to food, I was allowed a 10pence mix on the way to school. Now that sweet shops are making a come back, this book just made me want to own one.

Who’s the lucky duck that’s getting it next?.. Sis is getting this next, or mum, as I know that mum enjoyed Meet me at the Cup cake Cafe, so I’m pretty sure she will love this one too.

I read this on my weekend away.  Sat in my home on wheels with the fire glowing. I was transported to Rosie Hopkins Sweet Shop, where i could bite the heads off sugar mice and see how many rainbow drops I could fit in my mouth at once.

Weekend Fun

Of we went up the road for a weekend of  American (mostly) vintage cars.

I’m telling you, if I had the space, One of these would be mine.

203

The weather was bitter. Hail stone showers and cold winds in between bursts of sunshine, just long enough to get the shades out..

205

Some of the cars are polished to within and inch of their lives, while others are left rough and ready.

207

Not sure which look I would go for…

204

You?

208

There was a Burlesque show in the evening, of which no I wasn’t going to be the freaky person taking pictures of other women in their underwear, so you will just have to imagine the scene of 8 girls on the stage, some feathers and not much else, and my face when I recognised one as a girl who used to work along side me scooping ice cream.

Due to the cold weather we spent a lot of time being smugly warm inside our home on wheels.

If you want more pics of inside, go here.

Hope your weekend was fun!

Bonfires and Wooffies

Well that’s that then….Easter is over for another year.

My weekend was eventful. But not many pics due to the fact that I am getting old and forgot my big girls camera, (that’ll be me on the bloggers naughty step then) and then the weather decided to go all wet.

There was a big difference in the woods this Easter, in that the blanket of Bluebells we usually find wasn’t there. We decided it was due to a combination of four legged creatures having a feast and that Easter was a lot later last year.

Charlie came to the woods for a couple of visits, he decided that the woods=fun and lots and lots of things to sniff and see how far he can get his head down the holes.

063

The rest of the photos taken on my phone aren’t really worthy which makes me sad. I do have this to show you though. I made this for some friends that came to dinner last week.

043

I can hear you asking me where the Bonfires in the title are.

Well here you go A few weeks ago we stayed at a friends house. We took our home on wheels and parked in their driveway, and enjoyed lots of yummy food, and then sat in a nearby field around a rather large bonfire.

029

We do like a nice fire….

034

035

The April showers are well and truly here.  The wellies are being put to good use.

I have in my possession the new CL mag, and I’m thinking Mr D may provide a cup of tea…..!

This was at a 70’s fancy dress. I was a flower girl. Can’t you tell? I sold that dress on e bay afterward, and I regret it.

Mr D and I at a Halloween party. I borrowed my sis’s witchy cape, which was great as the party was in some woods and it was coooooold.  Mr D is Hannibal Lector SmileThis was a few years ago in a ‘short hair’ phase!

017

I thought I’d show you this one as this was taken Easter 2011 at the woods near our home which we get to pretend to be Gypsy’s in our home on wheels. I’m not sure the weather is due to be as kind as it was then…but time will tell!

old computer pics 003

And this was taken…yes in the very same woods. Easter 2010.

Guess where I will be this weekend? It’s kind of a tradition.

I hope your weekend is fabulous.

Hello April :)

2011-burberry-april-showers-collection-3-485x600

Does anyone do April Fools any more?

We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance. ~Japanese Proverb

April showers to look forward to?

Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain.

We have a Bank Holiday weekend next weekend, I have my first vintage fair to get ready for, and a camp in the woods (hope I won’t be dancing in the rain then…)

Yesterday was cold. I had 4 layers on. Today however….today was bright and sunny. Mr D went for a motor bike adventure and came home with a severe limp. Even though I don’t want to give him sympathy due to the fact that he’s old enough to realise he doesn't bounce like he used to…he’s still my hubby..the icy heart can’t help melt just a little when he asks me to help him…

I came across this video and thought you would like it…I’ve never been a huge fan of the Burberry Brand, but I am in love with this..

Is it raining where you are?
