Inside, alone

reo inside
There are times, while we are away in our Home on Wheels, that I just want to sit inside and shut the door.
I can read my magazines and books and paint my nails without having to make conversation with anyone or show visitors my space. If this sounds like I’m unsociable, it’s true. Sometimes I feel like being unsociable, and I’m ok with that. I’m actually very good at being alone. It suits me.
I’ve taken to using a scarf as a curtain, and a friend got his sister to make me this crochet blanket. I love it.

This week has been unbelievably hot at work. Not that I want it to change (the weather) I just want to not work in it.

Living it

war and peace 16
You may have noticed the Mr and I exhibit a vehicle at many shows throughout the year. This being our Home on Wheels which I have spoke about in many a post. We treat it as a chance to show of the classic truck (which is from the Vietnam era) occasionally we dress up in appropriate get up, have fun and decorate the camp with camo to make it look more authentic.
There are however, people at these shows that live it. They set up their camps for the week and ‘act out’ certain scenario's of war time. The above and below set up is ‘Black Hawk Down’ and this group won the prize for best living history display. They acted out a scenario back to back to educate thousands of school children and public that came to visit.

Even having a rest in the sun they look the part

They put in so much effort at making their camps look real, some even dig trenches and sit in them. Now that’s dedication for you.

And then there’s the home front area, here you can see how to make meals with your rations, take a peek into someone’s home or this pub I looked in to find Laurel & Hardy singing a little tune!! (no pics of those two though as  it was so full of people!

Mud

war and peace 7
The thing about sitting in a field with thousands of Military vehicles is that most of said vehicles are heavy and/or tracked. Hence the mud. There seem to be 2 weather conditions at this show, which we have been going to for about 15 yrs. The sun brings dust. Rain brings mud. Not very often is the right amount of both.
Not that I’m complaining, all adding to the atmosphere.
Also, I get to be one of those people that wear cute wellie’s with my dresses. (My computer doesn't like that word. It wants me to make it into willies but that would just be wrong).

Oh. And can we just mention my brolly? I am in love with it. Bring on the rain.

The importance of a comfy chair whilst camping

hawian shirt

This is Mr D. He likes the comfortable things in life, and this includes taking a comfy chair camping.  This chair was ‘acquired’ whilst working, it was going to be thrown away. Can’t for the life of me think why that would be. And no he wasn’t even working in a nursing home. Anyway. As you can see, the look isn’t that important to Mr D. Comfort factor is what it’s all about.

It’s a good thing we have a bigger than average home on wheels to transport said chair.

How to you get on with camping?

Home again

reo
Today we travelled home from our 10 day adventure in the home on wheels.
10 days of sitting in a field in every weather condition apart from snow. Met up with friends that we only see once a year when they also sit in a field. In which I read 3 books, a pile of magazines, drank ‘some’ Pimms and had my hair done all vintage so I could look the part at the dance tent.
That was some freaky weather I can tell you of which I have never experienced before, I was given the lesson of how I was perfectly safe in my big tin box in an electrical storm, even though the marshal’s were telling everyone to take their flag poles down. It’s a good job I trust the Mr.
Lots of weather photos to show you as well as all the other ones, but here’s  one on a sunny day of us showing off our parasols whist waiting to get our hair do’s. (I’m on the right)

Milkshake days

milkshake friday
A couple of weeks ago we have a family girly lunch at the local tea room.
Stuffed full of milkshake, soup, cake, strawberry's, I didn’t actually need to eat for the next six days. Or that’s how I felt at the time.
pineapple upside down cake
How cute is this little pineapple upside down cake for one?

I’m never that keen on drinking coffee out of a glass. It’s a thing. What about you?

Breakfast

vintage breakfast
If I’m on an early shift I’m lucky if I’m awake enough to make a cup of tea before I head out, but if I’m on a late shift or have the day off it’s nice to treat myself.
Some days are just nice to take your time over breakfast, don’t you think?
The most important meal of the day should definitely be served on pretty china.

Those Holiday Snaps

055 (2)
As you may (or may not) know we are on the verge of going off on some adventures in the Home on Wheels, but here are some photos from our Northumberland holiday a couple of months ago.
Having never been to Northumberland before I can’t begin to tell you how much we loved it. I can’t wait to go back and explore some more.
You may remember a post I did about our trip to Holy Island, well the above picture was taken at the foot of the castle where we stopped for lunch.
002
This was our little cottage where 5 of us stayed in Seahouses for a week plus a spaniel who you may be able to spot in the above pic f you are really clever..
039
The group (minus Mr D who was being photographer) This was a day we walked along the beach to Bamburgh Castle. Her we sat and watched the villagers play cricket at the foot of the castle while we had lunch.
075
These piles of rocks stretched along the shore line on Holy Island. No one seems to have any idea why they are there but it seems compulsory to add a rock to one before you go. It’s also amazing they don’t topple over as you can see from the below pic it was pretty windy on that island!

Very lovely views.

The little harbours were very picturesque, times lie this you wish you could draw.

Seems like so long ago, about ready for another holiday now

Getting ready for Glamping

vanity case
The packing is happening in between every day life. My new to me vanity case will be getting it’s first airing, and the vintage sparklies I’ve been collecting will be coming with me.
Because what more does one need when sat in the middle of a disused race course for a week other than pearls, pretty hair scarves and some rather elegant looking gloves?

Holiday days are around the corner..

war and peace revival 2013
Things are happening around Day Towers, the home on wheels is having a little bit of attention, new oil, book parcels are popping through the post, ready for those long days sitting in a field, with nothing to do but read, chat to friends about nothing and drink pink stuff out of a glass bigger than ones head.
There’s only the occasional rude interruption when the neighbours take off…

But generally the evenings are long and quiet.
