90 years young

Today I am wishing my Gran a happy 90th birthday. We celebrated at the weekend with a family meal where I met some of her family I had never met before and others I hadn’t seen for years and years. They came from Scotland to help celebrate and it was so lovely for them all to be able to catch up.

We drank a lot of champagne and had a lot of fun, and my sister and I were in bed by 9.30pm whilst Granny was still whizzing around her flat eating birthday cake and looking at her presents.

I can only hope I will be doing the same at 90.

The Views of The Lake District

(taken at the top of Wrynose pass with self timer)
The Lake District has a special place in our hearts. The Mr and I have spent many many years walking these beautiful hills, and 16 years ago we were married here.
Being The Lake District means the weather can be extremely hit or miss. When we visited at the end of Sept this year we had the best weeks weather ever, perfect walking weather, sunny without being too hot and so clear you could see for miles and miles.

(looking down onto Lake Windermere on a hill above Ambleside)
There’s just no way to explain how amazing it is to sit at the top of a hill you’ve conquered, get out your packed lunch and look over views like this.
Many people go hill walking alone, and although I don't think I would ever do that, I can see why they do.

And if you aren’t up for walking up hills, the views across the Lakes are pretty special too.
If you ever get the chance to visit you should.

This Girl Did

After two weeks of the world spinning around me I never thought I would make it to the top of some hills, all that hard work at the gym this year and I wondered if it would all go to waste, but there I am, at the top, looking down into the Martindale valley in The Lakes. If you look closely you can see the red roof of the hunting lodge which is where we spent many a holiday years ago with friends and where we stayed whilst getting married 16 years ago.
The week was perfect (if you ignore the fact that I felt sick most of the time and I couldn’t move very fast) I only fell on my arse once up the hill, we had some lovely sunny weather, the best we’ve ever had up there, I didn’t want to come home.

Now we are home I’m trying to get back to normal, but am still sleeping with extra pillows and there’s no yoga or body balance for me yet, there is not a chance in hell of me performing downward dog without falling over or throwing up, but I am at least back to work (even if I’m on go slow) and the Mr is being very patient with his wobbly wife.
I’m very out of touch with everyone, and will come and visit you all soon!
